The 3 Origin Sliding Systems

OS-29+, the slim flagship slider

Origin's current ultra-slim sliding door. 29 mm interlock and a whole-window U-value to 0.78 W/m²K with the thermal upgrade. The visual brief is near-frameless glass. The central interlock between two sliding panels reads as a thin vertical line rather than a frame element. The premium choice for residential rear extensions and architect-led projects where the sliding door needs to disappear into a panoramic glass wall.

OS-44, the mid-range slider

Origin's middle sliding tier. 44 mm interlock, a more substantial frame line than OS-29+, with the build-budget and engineering-envelope advantages that come with the wider profile. Useful where the visual brief is contemporary-but-not-minimal, where the panel size sits in the standard residential range, or where the build programme has pre-specified OS-44.

OS-77, the wide-profile slider

Origin's widest sliding system. 77 mm interlock for the largest panel sizes and highest wind-load exposures. The choice when the architectural brief calls for very large glass with the structural envelope to back it up. Same PAS 24 certification, same up-to-20-year Origin guarantee, same UK manufacture in Origin's High Wycombe factory.

In-line patio sliders, OXXO and OXXXXO supported

Origin's sliding range is in-line patio sliders. Configurations supported across all three systems include OX, XX, OXX, XXX, OXXO and OXXXXO: single sliding pane against a fixed pane, two sliding panes, three or four panel sets with fixed and sliding combined. A flush-stacking track option is available where the architectural brief calls for the open door to disappear flush against an adjacent wall pocket.

Up to 20-year Origin frame guarantee

Origin's commercial signature: a guarantee of up to 20 years on the aluminium frame, with marine environments downgraded to 10 years frame and 5 years on the moving hardware. Sits alongside our own 10-year FENSA-registered, CPA insurance-backed installation guarantee. The combined cover is one of the strongest in the UK premium market.

Origin Sliding — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between OS-29+, OS-44 and OS-77?

All three are premium Origin aluminium in-line patio sliders, all PAS 24 certified, all made in Origin's High Wycombe factory. The difference is the interlock: the visible vertical meeting point where two sliding panels overlap. OS-29+ has a 29 mm interlock (Origin's slim flagship, Uw to 0.78 W/m²K with thermal upgrade), OS-44 has a 44 mm interlock (mid-range), OS-77 has a 77 mm interlock (the widest profile, used for the largest panel sizes and highest wind-load exposures). Choose OS-29+ where the architectural priority is unbroken visual glass; OS-77 where the panels are structurally large; OS-44 in the middle.

Are Origin sliding doors lift-and-slide?

Origin's sliding range is in-line patio sliders, not lift-and-slide. Lift-and-slide describes a different mechanism (the sash is mechanically lifted clear of the threshold seal during operation, then lowers back onto the seal when closed) used most often by Schuco and Cortizo on their largest sliding panels. Where the project specifies lift-and-slide we install Schuco or Cortizo; where in-line sliding meets the brief we install Origin. We walk you through both at the survey stage.

What configurations can Origin sliders open in?

Origin sliders support OX (one sliding pane against one fixed), XX (two sliding panes), OXX (one fixed, two sliding), XXX (three sliding), OXXO (two fixed flanking two sliding) and OXXXXO (two fixed flanking four sliding) layouts. Stacking can be left, right or split. A flush-stacking track option is available where the open door needs to disappear into a wall pocket. The exact configuration for your opening is confirmed at the survey stage.

What U-values do Origin sliding doors achieve?

Origin's slimmest slider, the OS-29+, achieves whole-window U-values to 0.78 W/m²K with the thermal upgrade, comfortably exceeding the Approved Document L 1.4 W/m²K maximum for replacement doors. OS-44 and OS-77 reach Uw up to 1.3 W/m²K with double-glazed Low-E units. Specific Uw is calculated per opening based on the chosen system, glazing unit, frame size and thermal spec at quote stage.

How big can an Origin sliding panel be?

Origin sliders support panel sizes up to approximately 2.2 m wide × 2.52 m tall, with a 6 m² maximum per panel as the system-wide ceiling. Total opening width depends on the configuration chosen. Typical UK rear-extension openings (4-6 m wide) are spanned in OXX, XXX or OXXO layouts. The exact panel size and overall span for your opening, plus the maximum panel weight on your chosen system, is confirmed at the survey stage.

Can I get Origin sliders in any RAL colour?

Yes, over 150 RAL shades, plus dual-colour configurations where the inside and outside of the frame are different finishes. The colour is applied to the aluminium substrate through powder-coating to BS EN 12206 rather than as a surface foil, so it doesn't fade or peel over decades, a meaningful advantage on south-facing installations versus dark uPVC.
