Why Schuco Lift-and-Slide

What is lift-and-slide

Lift-and-slide is a sliding door operation distinct from a standard slider. The handle physically lifts the leaf off its weather seal before the leaf moves, then drops the leaf back onto the seal when closed. The mechanical advantage means very heavy sashes (300kg+) can be moved smoothly by hand — sashes too heavy for a standard slider — and the closed leaf seats more firmly onto the seal so the air-tightness when closed is excellent. Used on architectural projects where unbroken glass walls or motorisation matters.

ASS 70.HI Slimline — motorised e-slide option

The slimline variant of the ASS 70.HI sliding range pairs a 48mm slim profile with up to 300kg leaf weight and Schuco's e-slide motorisation. Single-button operation for sashes too heavy or too frequent to slide manually, controlled by app or wall switch. Max sash 3000×3000mm. Specified on accessibility-priority installations and contemporary projects where automated entry-glass walls matter, or where the daily-use frequency of the slider would make manual operation tedious.

ASS 77 PD Panorama — heavy spans + high thermal

Schuco's ASS 77 PD Panorama lift-and-slide handles single sashes up to 3200mm × 3000mm and 500kg per sash, with whole-window Uw under 0.8 W/m²K and a 30mm central section. RC2 burglar resistance — the German DIN security classification recognised internationally for residential resistance against opportunistic break-in attempts. The spec architects most often call out for premium contemporary builds where unbroken glass walls + high thermal + security all matter together.

30 mm central section (ASS 77 PD)

The central junction where two sliding leaves meet is the visible interruption in the glass plane. ASS 77 PD's 30mm central section keeps the visible central mullion narrow even on a very wide opening — so the eye reads the door as a near-uninterrupted glass plane more than a frame structure. Combined with the 500kg sash capacity, this means panoramic glass walls without the visual fragmentation of bifold leaves or a thicker slider central interlock.

PAS 24:2022 + RC2 burglar resistance (ASS 77 PD)

All Schuco lift-and-slide opening profiles are PAS 24:2022 certified with multi-point shootbolt locking, anti-lift devices on the running track, and toughened safety glass throughout. The ASS 77 PD additionally carries RC2 burglar resistance under DIN EN 1627 — recognised internationally for residential security. Secured by Design configurations available where insurance or new-build specifications require it.

Schuco Lift-and-Slide — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Schuco ASS 70.HI Slimline and ASS 77 PD Panorama?

ASS 70.HI Slimline is the slim-profile lift-and-slide with a 48mm slim profile and Schuco's e-slide motorisation option, supporting up to 300kg leaf weight and max sash 3000×3000mm. ASS 77 PD Panorama is the heavy-span lift-and-slide — max sash 3200×3000mm at up to 500kg per sash, whole-window Uw under 0.8 W/m²K, RC2 burglar resistance, 30mm central section. Choose ASS 70.HI Slimline when motorisation or a slim profile matters; choose ASS 77 PD when very large sashes, high thermal performance and security are the priority.

What is the difference between sliding and lift-and-slide?

On a standard slider (Schuco ASE 60 / ASE 80, Cortizo Cor Vision) the handle operates the lock and the leaf rolls along the track. On a lift-and-slide the handle physically lifts the leaf off its weather seal before sliding — this gives you the mechanical advantage to move very heavy sashes (300kg+) smoothly by hand, and the closed leaf seats more firmly onto the seal so the air-tightness when closed is excellent. Lift-and-slide is the architectural spec for very large sashes, motorised operation, or where the closed-state air-tightness needs to be exceptional.

Can Schuco lift-and-slide be motorised?

Yes. Schuco e-slide is an integrated motorised opening system for the ASS 70.HI Slimline lift-and-slide range. The leaf opens and closes automatically, controlled via wall switch, timer or smart home system. Common applications: very large sashes too heavy to slide manually (sashes up to 300kg), accessibility-priority installations, and contemporary projects where automated entry-glass walls matter. ASS 77 PD Panorama is operated manually as standard given its mechanical advantage handles 500kg sashes by hand.

What is RC2 burglar resistance?

RC2 (resistance class 2) is the German DIN EN 1627 security classification for residential break-in resistance. RC2 means the system resists a casual burglar with simple tools (screwdrivers, pliers, wedges) for at least 3 minutes — long enough that the typical opportunistic break-in attempt is abandoned. It's recognised internationally and is a common spec requirement on premium UK residential projects. ASS 77 PD Panorama carries RC2 as standard.

How wide can ASS 77 PD Panorama go?

Single sashes up to 3200mm × 3000mm at up to 500kg per sash. The configuration determines the overall opening: 2-pane (one fixed, one sliding) up to ~6.4m total in the right layout; 3-pane and pocket-door configurations support larger spans where the architectural detailing allows. We confirm the right configuration for your opening at the survey stage based on the structural support, glazing weight and intended sash function.

How does Schuco lift-and-slide compare to Cortizo Cor Vision Plus?

Both are premium aluminium sliding systems for large spans. Schuco ASS 77 PD Panorama supports max sash 3200×3000mm at 500kg with whole-window Uw under 0.8 W/m²K and 30mm central section. Cortizo Cor Vision Plus Sliding supports max sash 3.3m × 3m at up to 500kg per panel with a 20mm central junction. Cor Vision Plus has the slimmer central junction; ASS 77 PD has the lift-and-slide mechanism with RC2 burglar resistance. Where the brief is open, we walk you through both at the survey stage. Is the e-slide motorisation reliable for daily use?

Yes. Schuco e-slide is engineered for residential and high-end commercial daily use. Motor and drive components are sized for the leaf weight rating (up to 300kg) and rated for the typical residential daily-cycle frequency. Operation is via a wall-mounted button, a smart home system or the Schuco app. Periodic servicing is recommended at standard intervals (annual visual inspection plus 5-year mechanism check) — comparable to the maintenance schedule any motorised aluminium system requires.
