The 4 Schuco Bifold Systems
AS FD 75 — the current UK Schuco bifold
75mm frame depth, 90mm meeting-point sightline, whole-window Uw from 1.1 W/m²K. Current Schuco residential bifold spec — supersedes earlier ASS 70.HI bifolds for most new specifications. Full Schuco hardware ecosystem, all standard RAL colours, anodised finishes, dual colour (different inside vs outside). PAS 24:2022 certified across opening profiles.
AS FD 90.HI — Passivhaus-grade thermal
When the project is targeting Passivhaus certification or a low-energy refurbishment standard, AS FD 90.HI is the spec. 90mm frame depth, whole-window Uw from 0.8 W/m²K — meeting Passivhaus thermal demand at the bifold rather than offsetting it elsewhere in the building envelope. Same handles, hinges and security spec as AS FD 75; the difference is depth + insulation.
ASS 70.HI Bifold — long-standing range
ASS 70.HI bifolds vent up to 3.0m × 1.2m per leaf with whole-window Uw as low as 1.3 W/m²K. Still specified on existing-spec extensions or where matching pre-installed Schuco joinery on a phased project. For new builds and full retrofits the AS FD 75 / 90.HI is the current spec.
Schuco Cornerless Bifold — corner-opening
The Cornerless Bifold is the corner-opening variant — a fully retractable corner with no permanent post, so when open the two perpendicular runs of doors fold away and you're left with an open corner. The architectural detail used most often on rear extensions wrapping a kitchen-diner around a garden corner; once opened, there's no visual or physical interruption between the two elevations.
PAS 24:2022 + Secured by Design configurations
All Schuco bifolds are PAS 24:2022 certified across opening profiles with multi-point shootbolt locking, hidden hinges, internally-beaded glazing and laminated inner glass options. Secured by Design configurations are available — the UK police-approved spec recognised by Hiscox, Chubb, AIG and other premium home insurers.

Schuco Bifold — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Schuco AS FD 75 and AS FD 90.HI?
AS FD 75 is the standard residential bifold — 75mm frame depth, whole-window Uw from 1.1 W/m²K, the spec specified on most new Schuco bifold installs. AS FD 90.HI is the Passivhaus-grade upgrade — 90mm frame depth, whole-window Uw from 0.8 W/m²K. Both share the Schuco hardware ecosystem, the same colour and finish range and the same PAS 24:2022 security spec. Choose AS FD 90.HI when the project is targeting Passivhaus or low-energy refurbishment certification; AS FD 75 covers everything else.
Do you install Schuco Cornerless Bifolds in the UK?
Yes — Vitrum Solutions installs the Schuco Cornerless Bifold across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey and Hampshire. The Cornerless is the corner-opening variant where two runs of bifold doors meet at a corner with no permanent post — when open, the corner is fully clear and the two perpendicular elevations join visually as a single open opening. We coordinate the structural detailing with your builder or architect at the survey stage so the lintel and corner support are right.
How does the Schuco bifold compare to Cortizo bifold?
Both are premium aluminium bifolds with comparable thermal performance and security spec. Schuco's distinguishing strength on bifolds is the AS FD 90.HI Passivhaus-grade option; Cortizo's strength is the Bi-fold Plus Door with a 110mm reduced central junction (a slimmer central interlock between leaves). Where the architect has specified Schuco, we install Schuco; where the brief is open, we walk you through both during the survey. Side-by-side comparison: /blog/cortizo-vs-schuco.
Do Schuco bifolds work in cold weather?
Yes — Schuco bifolds are designed for the UK climate. The AS FD 75 achieves whole-window Uw from 1.1 W/m²K and the AS FD 90.HI reaches Passivhaus-grade Uw from 0.8 W/m²K. All Schuco profiles are tested to BS EN 12207 Class 4 air permeability — the maximum air-tightness rating, meaningfully reducing draughts and heat loss compared to standard aluminium frames. Thermally-broken profiles separate the cold outside metal from the warm inside metal so condensation on the frame is minimised.
How wide can a Schuco bifold open?
Configurations depend on the system. Most Schuco bifolds support panel sizes large enough to span a typical UK rear-extension opening (around 4-6 metres total) in 3- to 7-leaf layouts. The exact maximum panel and overall span varies by system (AS FD 75 vs AS FD 90.HI vs ASS 70.HI) and by the specific glazing weight and stack direction. We confirm the right configuration for your opening at the survey stage.
Are Schuco bifolds Secured by Design?
Yes — Secured by Design configurations are available across the Schuco bifold range. SBD is the UK police-approved security spec, recognised by Hiscox, Chubb, AIG and other premium home insurers (and sometimes a hard requirement on insurance policies for high-net-worth households). PAS 24:2022 certification is standard across all Schuco opening profiles; SBD adds specific hardware and laminated-glass combinations on top.
Can you install Schuco bifolds in conservation areas?
Bifold doors are not usually a conservation-area decision point — most conservation councils focus on visible street-facing windows and front doors rather than rear-of-property doors. Schuco bifolds are almost always rear-extension installs on premium contemporary projects, so they're rarely the planning issue. Where the rear of the property is also conservation-sensitive, talk to us at the survey stage; we can flag what your local planning authority typically accepts.
