Why ASE 60 / ASE 80
ASE 60 — slimmer 60 mm depth
Schuco ASE 60 is the slimmer-depth member of the ASE sliding family. 60mm frame depth keeps the sightlines tight on smaller residential openings or where the architectural intent is a less-imposing slider. Multi-chamber thermally-broken profile, double-glazed Low-E units as standard with warm-edge spacer bars; PAS 24:2022 certified opening profiles with multi-point locking and toughened safety glass throughout.
ASE 80 — Passivhaus-grade thermal
Schuco ASE 80 reaches Passivhaus-grade thermal performance — the most stringent energy-efficiency standard for window and door systems. 80mm frame depth, with thermal break geometry and chamber design meeting the Passivhaus thermal demand at the slider rather than offsetting elsewhere in the building envelope. The spec architects most often call out for low-energy refurbishments and certified Passivhaus new builds.
Standard slider, not lift-and-slide
ASE 60 and ASE 80 are standard sliding doors — the leaf rolls horizontally on a precision track, with handle operation similar to a patio door. They are distinct from Schuco's lift-and-slide systems (ASS 70.HI Slimline, ASS 77 PD Panorama), where the handle physically lifts the leaf off the seal before sliding for very heavy or motorised sashes. Choose ASE if standard slide function and Passivhaus-grade thermal are the priority; choose lift-and-slide for very large or motorised sashes.
PAS 24:2022 + Secured by Design configurations
Schuco ASE sliders are PAS 24:2022 certified across opening profiles with multi-point shootbolt locking, anti-lift devices on the running track, internally-beaded glazing, and toughened safety glass throughout (mandatory under Approved Document K within 800mm of finished floor level). Secured by Design configurations available where insurance or new-build specifications require it.
Class 4 air permeability, dimensional stability
Tested to BS EN 12207 Class 4 air permeability — the maximum air-tightness rating, meaningfully reducing draughts and heat loss versus standard aluminium sliders. Schuco's polyamide thermal break separates the cold outside metal from the warm inside metal, and the multi-chamber profile keeps the structure dimensionally stable across UK seasonal temperature swings so the slider keeps gliding cleanly over decades.

What is the difference between Schuco ASE 60 and ASE 80?
ASE 60 has a 60mm frame depth — the slimmer member of the ASE family, suited to residential openings where the architectural priority is tighter sightlines without the ASE 80's thermal upgrade. ASE 80 has an 80mm frame depth and reaches Passivhaus-grade thermal performance — the spec to choose when the project is targeting Passivhaus certification or a low-energy refurbishment standard. Both share the Schuco hardware ecosystem, the same PAS 24:2022 security spec and the same colour and finish range.
What is Passivhaus and does my home need ASE 80?
Passivhaus is a low-energy building standard developed in Germany — homes certified to Passivhaus need very little active heating because the building envelope is highly insulated and air-tight. ASE 80 is the Schuco sliding door spec that doesn't drag down the building's overall thermal performance versus an opaque wall section. If your home is a standard UK new build or refurbishment without Passivhaus or low-energy certification ambitions, ASE 60 is usually sufficient — Schuco's thermal performance comfortably exceeds Approved Document L without ASE 80's specific Passivhaus geometry.
Is the Schuco ASE 60 / ASE 80 a lift-and-slide?
No — ASE 60 and ASE 80 are standard sliders. The leaf rolls horizontally on a precision track and the handle operates the lock without lifting the sash. For lift-and-slide function — where the handle physically lifts the leaf off the seal before sliding (used on heavier or motorised sashes) — Schuco's ASS 70.HI Slimline and ASS 77 PD Panorama are the systems to choose. See /schuco/lift-and-slide for the lift-and-slide range.
How wide can a Schuco ASE slider go?
ASE configurations support typical UK rear-extension and patio openings in 2-, 3- or 4-pane layouts. Maximum panel and overall span depends on the specific glazing weight, the thermal spec (ASE 60 vs ASE 80) and the layout chosen. We confirm the exact dimensions for your opening at the survey stage.
How does Schuco ASE compare to Cortizo Cor Vision sliding?
Both are premium aluminium sliders. Schuco's distinguishing strength on standard sliders is the ASE 80 Passivhaus-grade thermal upgrade. Cortizo's strength is the Cor Vision Plus Sliding which has a 20mm central junction (a notably slim central interlock between leaves) and supports max sash up to 3.3m × 3m at up to 500kg per panel. Where Passivhaus thermal is the priority, ASE 80 wins; where the architectural priority is the slimmest possible junction, Cor Vision Plus often wins. Are Schuco ASE sliders Secured by Design?
Yes — Secured by Design configurations are available across the ASE range. SBD is the UK police-approved security spec, recognised by Hiscox, Chubb, AIG and other premium home insurers. PAS 24:2022 certification is standard across opening profiles; SBD adds specific hardware and laminated-glass combinations on top.
Can ASE sliders be made flush-threshold for level access?
Yes — flush threshold options are available across the ASE range for level (step-free) access between inside and outside. The detail matters for accessibility-priority installations and contemporary projects where the inside floor finish runs visually unbroken to the patio. Talk to us at the survey stage about the threshold detail your build needs; we'll specify the right Schuco ASE variant for the application.
