Why Cortizo Lift-and-Slide
What is lift-and-slide
Lift-and-slide is a sliding door operation distinct from a standard slider. The handle physically lifts the leaf off its weather seal before the leaf moves, then drops the leaf back onto the seal when closed. The mechanical advantage means very heavy sashes can be moved smoothly by hand — sashes too heavy for a standard Cor Vision slider — and the closed leaf seats more firmly onto the seal so the air-tightness when closed is excellent.
Cortizo 4700 Sliding Patio — medium-large openings
The 4700 Sliding Patio is Cortizo's lift-and-slide for medium-to-large patio openings. Where a Cor Vision slider hits its sash-weight or span limit, the 4700 takes over — the lift-and-slide mechanism gives the mechanical advantage to handle heavier sashes by hand, while the closed-state air-tightness is excellent for thermal performance.
Cortizo 4900 Sliding HI — heavier spans + thermal
The 4900 Sliding HI is the heavier lift-and-slide spec in the range, with whole-window Uw from 1.2 W/m²K — the thermal-priority Cortizo lift-and-slide. Used on premium contemporary projects where unbroken glass walls and Approved Document L compliance both matter, or on low-energy refurbishments where every part of the building envelope needs to perform thermally.
Slim sightlines, large glass area
Both 4700 and 4900 are engineered to keep the visible mullion narrow even on a very wide opening — so the eye reads the door as a near-uninterrupted glass plane. Combined with the lift-and-slide mechanism's heavy-sash capability, this means panoramic glass walls without bifold-style fragmentation or thicker slider-style central interlocks.
PAS 24:2022 + Secured by Design configurations
All Cortizo 4700 and 4900 opening profiles are PAS 24:2022 certified with multi-point shootbolt locking, anti-lift devices on the running track, and toughened safety glass throughout (mandatory under Approved Document K within 800mm of finished floor level). Secured by Design configurations available where insurance specs require it.

What is the difference between sliding and lift-and-slide?
On a standard slider (Cortizo Cor Vision, Schuco ASE) the handle operates the lock and the leaf rolls along the track. On a lift-and-slide the handle physically lifts the leaf off its weather seal before sliding — this gives the mechanical advantage to move very heavy sashes smoothly by hand, and the closed leaf seats more firmly onto the seal so the air-tightness when closed is excellent. Lift-and-slide is the architectural spec for very large sashes, motorised operation, or where the closed-state air-tightness needs to be exceptional.
What is the difference between Cortizo 4700 and 4900 Sliding HI?
Both are lift-and-slide. The 4700 Sliding Patio is the lift-and-slide for medium-to-large patio openings — the spec used where a Cor Vision standard slider hits its sash-weight or span limit. The 4900 Sliding HI is the heavier-span lift-and-slide with whole-window Uw from 1.2 W/m²K — the thermal-priority option for premium contemporary projects and low-energy refurbishments where the door's thermal performance directly affects the overall building envelope rating.
How does Cortizo lift-and-slide compare to Schuco lift-and-slide?
Both are premium aluminium lift-and-slide systems for large sashes. Schuco's distinguishing strengths are the ASS 70.HI Slimline e-slide motorisation option and ASS 77 PD Panorama (max sash 3200×3000mm at 500kg, Uw < 0.8 W/m²K, RC2 burglar resistance, 30mm central section). Cortizo's 4900 Sliding HI focuses on whole-window Uw from 1.2 W/m²K with the lift-and-slide mechanism. Where the brief is open, we walk you through both at the survey stage. When should I choose Cortizo 4700 / 4900 over Cor Vision Plus?
Choose Cortizo Cor Vision Plus when the architectural priority is the slim 20 mm central junction on a sash up to 3.3 m × 3 m at 500 kg — the slimmest residential slider in the range. Choose 4700 or 4900 lift-and-slide when sash weights or daily-use frequency exceed Cor Vision's manual-slide comfort zone, or when the closed-state air-tightness needs to be the highest practical level (lift-and-slide seats the leaf onto the seal more firmly). The choice is usually clear from the spec at the survey stage.
Are Cortizo lift-and-slide doors PAS 24 certified?
Yes — all Cortizo 4700 and 4900 opening profiles are PAS 24:2022 certified with multi-point shootbolt locking, anti-lift devices on the running track, and toughened safety glass throughout. Secured by Design configurations available where insurance or new-build specifications require it (recognised by Hiscox, Chubb, AIG and other premium home insurers).
Can lift-and-slide doors be motorised?
Cortizo's residential lift-and-slide range (4700 / 4900 Sliding HI) is operated manually as standard — the mechanical advantage of the lift-and-slide mechanism handles very heavy sashes by hand. For motorised operation, Schuco's ASS 70.HI Slimline with e-slide motorisation is the spec to consider — see /schuco/lift-and-slide.
